COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's water polo team will head down the beltway to face Southern Division rival George Washington Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
The Terps (4-9, 1-2 Southern Division) are coming off a league weekend in Salem, W.Va., in which they split their two games. Maryland fell to No. 19 Princeton, 16-2, before defeating Salem International, 14-8, for the program's first-ever division win.
Senior Elyse Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) leads the Terps in scoring and is among the best in the country with 24 goals. She has scored in 11 of Maryland's 13 games, including the first nine of the season.
Her sister, junior goalie Marissa Corwin (Orinda, Calif.) is among the nation's leaders in saves with 98. She saw time in the field against Salem International, as sophomore Stacy Glantz (Roslyn, N.Y.) made her first career start, registering seven blocks while allowing eight goals.
Senior Colleen McShane (Chicago, Ill.) is second on the team with 11 goals, followed by senior Juli Jordan (Springfield, Va.) with nine and freshman Kacie Owens (Annapolis, Md.) with seven. McShane also leads the team in steals with 14, followed by freshman Allie Houseal (Harleysville, Pa.), who has 10.
The Terrapins fell to the Colonials, 6-3, earlier this season at the Terrapin Invitational. George Washington has not played since the tournament, in which the team went 2-1, with wins over Maryland and Salem International and a loss to Navy Aquatic Club. The Colonials are 5-5 on the season.
