CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sophomore Jessica Reno fired an 82 Friday to lead University of Maryland players at the Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf tournament being played at the Carmel Country Club.

The Terrapins were in eighth place as a team after the first of three rounds, shooting a 337. Perennial champion Duke held the first-round lead as a team at 303, nine shots ahead of Wake Forest.

Reno was tied for 22nd place after the opening 18 holes. She went out in 3-over-par 39, taking advantage of a pair of birdies on the front nine. Kate Stepanek led Maryland with a 40 on the back nine to finish at 83 and a tie for 25th overall.

Also for Maryland, Kelly MacWhinnie, Kelly Calkin and Katie Trotter each finished with an 86, tying for 37th place individually.

Wake Forest's Mandy Goins shot an opening-round 73 on Friday to take the individual lead by one shot over Duke's Anna Grzebien and by two shots over Brittany Lang.

The second round will begin at 8:30 on Saturday, with the final 18 holes to be played Sunday. Live scoring updates are available at www.golfstat.com.
