POSITION VACANCY
POSITION TITLE: Assistant/Associate Director (Academic Counselor)
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Full-time, Contingent II
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant/Associate Director (Academic Counselor) for the Academic Support and Career Development Unit (ASCDU) reports to the Assistant AD for ASCDU and is responsible for assisting student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives. This individual will serve as the primary contact and academic counselor in the sport of men's basketball. Specific responsibilities include: (1) acting as a liaison to faculty, administrators, and coaches regarding student-athlete academic matters; (2) participating in the recruitment, orientation, pre-registration, and enrollment of student-athletes; (3) tracking and monitoring academic progress for each student-athlete to ensure satisfactory progress; (4) coordinating the production, development, collection, dissemination, review, and analysis of the progress reports from faculty members; and (5) traveling with the team on trips longer than one night to oversee study time. Two Learning Specialists in ASCDU will partner with this individual to ensure that any high risk basketball student-athletes have their needs met. In addition, there is a study table coordinator in place, as well as a tutor coordinator. This unit employs 13 full-time staff and 2 graduate assistants with an annual budget in excess of $1 million. Other duties for this position include: serving as the liaison for updating the web page; coordinating academic awards and honors; and performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. At least 5 years of experience, preferably in athletic administration, academic services, or related field. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and procedures. Strong oral and written communication skills are needed. Must be computer literate.
SALARY: $40,000 - $50,000, depending on experience.
