COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Athletic Media Relations Office received seven citations for excellence in publications, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This marks the fourth year in a row the unit has collected an impressive number of honors, with 53 awards received in the last four years. The awards will be presented at CoSIDA's convention in Philadelphia next month.
Media relations staff members combined with Maryland's publications coordinator, Patrick Fischer, and former publications coordinator, Jason Yellin, to produce the award-winning media guides. Leading the way was the Terp football media guide, which earned the prestigious honor of Best Cover In The Nation, as well as first place in its district. Associate media relations director Greg Creese and associate athletics director for media relations Doug Dull wrote the football guide, while Yellin designed it.
The Maryland men's basketball media guide also earned national recognition, as it was awarded seventh place in the nation. The book was written by assistant media relations director Mark Fratto and designed by Fischer. It also was voted the second-best book in its district.
Also garnering national attention was the men's soccer media guide, written and designed by assistant media relations director Adam Zundell with assistance from Jason Yellin. The guide earned fourth place in the nation.
The 2004 Maryland volleyball media guide, written and designed by assistant media relations director Amy Mulligan with assistance from Yellin, was awarded second-place honors in its district, while the Maryland track and field guide took first place in its district. The track and field guide was written by media relations assistant Dustin Hockensmith and designed by Fischer.
Of current Atlantic Coast Conference schools, Maryland captured the second-largest total of awards.
