College Park, Md. - Women's soccer seniors Kimmy Francis and Mallory Mahar have been named 2005 team captains, head coach Brian Pensky announced today.
Franics is a repeat selection as team captain and is a three-time All-ACC selection. The Richboro, Pa., native was one of the Terps most consistent performers throughout the 2004 season starting all 20 games, leading the team in assists (5) and finishing second in goals (6) and points (17). Francis is currently seventh on the school's all-time point scoring list and needs just 10 points in 2005 to move into third place.
Mahar, a three-time All-ACC honoree, was a third team All-American in 2004 after leading the Terps in points (22) and goals (9) and setting a school record for game-winning goals by a junior with four. It was Mahar's ninth goal of the season that gave Maryland a 1-0 win over No. 2 seed Penn State in the NCAA Tournament to send the Terps into the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 1996.
