COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland Athletics Department has balanced its annual budget for the 11th straight year, director of athletics Deborah A. Yow announced today.
Revenues of $46,442,724 were required to pay all expenses for the 2004-05 academic year, which ended on June 30, 2005. In addition, the campus received $6 million from athletics-driven revenues to support other university programming.
"It is extremely gratifying to be able to financially assist the campus during the current economic environment, while still balancing the athletics budget," said Yow. "Fiscal integrity is one of our department's foundational principles."
From 1984 through 1994, the Maryland athletics budget was not balanced.
The projected expenditures budget for Fiscal Year 2006 will be $46,806,181.
No state funds are utilized for the intercollegiate athletics operational budget.
