Junior Kate Stepanek fired a closing round of even-par 72 to lead University of Maryland golfers Monday in the final round of the Cougar Classic women's golf tournament hosted by the College of Charleston.
Stepanek finished with a 54-hole total of 225 to tie for 30th place individually. She matched the three-round total of teammate Jessica Reno, who had a 74 on Monday.
As a team, Maryland finished 12th with a final score of 907. The Terrapins shot 303 on Monday to place just one shot behind Wake Forest and the College of Charleston.
Also for Maryland, Kelly Calkin and Katie Trotter each tied for 56th with a 232 total, with Kelly MacWhinnie tied for 67th at 234.
Tennessee held on to its two-shot lead over Georgia to earn the team championship. The Lady Vols shot 289 on Monday to finish with an 870 total.
Tennessee's Marci Turner fired a 5-under-par 67 to rally from seventh place to win medalist honors with a three-round total of 212. She won by three strokes over Whitney Wade of Georgia.
Maryland next plays in the Wolverine Invitational on Oct. 1 and 2.
