College Park, Md. -
Maryland Athletics and the Terrapin Sports Radio Network invite fans to tune-in and call-in tonight from 8-10 p.m. to "Terps Talk", the new, two-hour call-in show hosted by Johnny Holliday and dedicated to Terps sports.
This week, Johnny will recap Maryland's heartbreaking 28-24 loss to No. 25 Clemson, look ahead to the interstate rivalry with West Virginia and interview women's soccer coach Kimmy Francis, Mallory Mahar and Danielle Malagari.
Nearly 51,000 fans packed Byrd Stadium for the 2005 home opener and saw the Terps take a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter, but Clemson rallied for 14 points in the fourth for a 28-24 victory. Sam Hollenbach threw for 288 yards and two touchdowns on 18-for-28 passing, with 140 of those yards and one TD coming from tight end Vernon Davis' six receptions. Maryland welcomes West Virginia to College Park this Saturday, September 17 at 12 noon.
Coach Pensky is in his first season as head coach of the Maryland women's soccer program that has already seen more than its fair share of adversity in 2005. Despite facing the nation's toughest schedule and a roster that has been depleted by injuries, Pensky is looking to guide the Terps to their 10th NCAA Tournament bid.
Kimmy Francis, a three-time All-ACC honoree, has made a steady climb up the Terrapin women's soccer record book. The senior from Richboro, Pa., is currently sixth all-time in points (61), tied for seventh in goals (20), fourth in assists (21), third in shots (189) and tied for fourth in game-winning goals (8).
Mallory Mahar, a 2004 All-American and three-time All-ACC honoree, led Maryland in goals and points in 2004, but saw her senior season come to an end in Friday's 2-0 loss to Villanova with a torn ACL. For her career, Mahar is 10th on the career points list (47) and tied for 10th in career goals (10).
Danielle Malagair has played midfield and defender during her four seasons as a Terp. She helped lead the Terrapin defense to seven shutouts in 2004. The senior from Clarksburg, Md., is the author of the popular "What's Up With Women's Soccer" feature on umterps.com.
This week the Maryland women's soccer team hosts a pair of games at Ludwig Field, beginning with No. 4 Penn State on Friday, September 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Terps also host the Yale Bulldogs on Sunday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m.
