Powley Helps U.S. Juniors to a Tie Vs. Top-Seeded Netherlands

Sept. 16, 2005

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior All-American Lauren Powley helped the U.S. Junior National Team to a 2-2 tie against top-seeded the Netherlands at the Junior World Cup on Thursday in Santiago, Chile. The draw comes a day after the Americans posted a surprising win over England, 4-2.

The U.S. battled back twice to even the game against the Dutch and fought off numerous penalty corners to force a tie. Powley, who played on the Senior National Team this past summer, has been a starter for the U.S. Junior Team.

The U.S. scored three unanswered goals after trailing, 1-0, to England in the first game of pool play on Thursday, despite only two days of preparation.

Powley and the United State play Zimbabwe when the Junior World Cup action continues on Sept. 18.
