
Volleyball Hosts FSU Friday Night At Home

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland opened the 2005 Volleyball season 10-0 and won its first ACC match-up against Boston College Tuesday night (30-32, 30-11, 35-33, 30-21). The start is the sixth-best in school history and the third-best since 1975.
Leading the team offensively is senior Rachel Wagener with 128 kills (.447 for the season, 3.76 average per game). Senior middle blocker Stephanie Smith holds the position as leader in blocks with seven against BC and is climbing the ranks nationally. Freshman standout Maggie Schmelzle had a striking start to the season with 96 kills (.245 for the season and 2.82 average per game).
FSU comes to the Comcast Center with a 2-6 record, most recently folding to sixth-ranked and home-state rival Florida. The Seminoles are hitting .166 for the season and are led by sophomore libero Summer Weissing. Weissing averages 3.97 digs per game. Senior Kristen Rust is in charge of the offense posting 3.2 kills per game and a team-high .33 aces per game.
Maryland leads the series against Florida State 18-12.
Following Friday night's game against FSU at 6 p.m., Maryland faces Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Comcast Center Pavilion. The Terps then travel for four road matches.
