UC Santa Barbara Defeats Rutgers 2-0 In Opening Game of Maryland/adidas Classic

College Park, Md. - Freshman Katie Smith scored her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute to give the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos a 1-0 lead en route to a 2-0 victory over Rutgers in the opening game of the Maryland/adidas Classic. Freshman Genelle Ives scored the insurance goal off a corner kick from junior Allie Kueny in the 70th minute. The win lifts the Gauchos to 2-3-0 on the season, while the Scarlet Knights fall to 2-2.
