COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Gymnastics team lost a close meet Saturday against Illinois, 192.45-190.4. The Terps are now 1-2 on the season. Maryland scored its highest team total on the season.

Ginny Scott scored a career-high 9.85 on vault and finished second overall. Rachel Martinez added a 9.825 for third place and Angie Ferg notched a 9.775 and tied for fourth place. Maryland scored a season-high 48.775 on vault but was edged by the Fighting Illini (48.85). Michelle McGrady won the event for Illinois with a 9.875.

The Terps defeated the Fighting Illini on uneven bars, scoring a season-high 48.25. Martinez led Maryland with a 9.775 and finished second overall. Rachel Colon notched a 9.75 and finished in third place and Alex Gatch added a 9.625 and finished in sixth place. The Fightin Illini's Cara Pomeroy finished first on the event with a 9.85.

Maryland struggled on balance beam scoring a 46.25. Gatch finished first overall with a season high 9.75. Colon notched a 9.7 and finished fourth. Martinez added a 9.625 for fifth place. Illinois won the event with a team total,47.3.

Martinez finish fourth overall on floor exercise with a 9.675. Ferg added a 9.625 for sixth place and Lindsey Bonomo notched a season-high 9.55 for fifth place. Michelle McGrady won the event for Illinois, scoring a 9.825.

Martinez won the all-around competition, scoring a 38.9 and Colon finished second with a 38.275.

The Terps will look to get back in the win column when they travel to North Carolina for a quad meet with the Tar Heels, Kentucky Wildcats and James Madison Dukes, Sunday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m.
