On his concerns halfway through the season:
"I still think we can play better. I think we are still a work in progress. I'm hoping that this win [against Virginia] will help us see that and get better with that."
On moving forward from the win against Virginia:
"The one thing we can't do is fall back. We can't relax. We can't just say, `Oh, we won a big game, that's great'. For me this is the beginning not the end. We have to build on this."
On making improvements:
"I think we still have to get better in the throwing game and make more plays in the throwing game. There are plays that are there but we have to make them. We need to continue this balance. I need to be more wide open offensively, and defensively we need to do a better job in the running game and stopping the long passes."
On the inconsistency of the defense:
"Some of it is that we have a few inexperienced guys playing. It's about how to take on a block or how to free the right arm. There is a lack of experience mistake; I don't see it as an effort mistake. What's going to happen is that the more they play and the more experience they have, the better they will be. I'd like for that to happen tomorrow, but I know that's not going to happen."
On how to maintain consistency with the defense:
With confidence and time. We just have to continue to improve. In not just one area but all areas, in coaching and playing. As long as we are putting forth the effort I think that is going to happen. We have to hang together as a team and put the team before ourselves. Hopefully the more we win, the better that will be.
On the series between Maryland and NC State:
"The first three years we weren't supposed to win and we did. They have won the last two. They have all been close games. I have tremendous respect for Chuck, his coaching ability, his recruiting, and the NC State program. I think we are both very good coaches, we work very hard at our job, and we are both very aggressive. I think there are a lot of similarities between us.
