The University of Maryland women's water polo team will play its third annual alumni game on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the newly-named Eppley Recreation Center Pool. Each year, the Terps invite alumni to face current players as part of the team's Homecoming weekend festivities.
The Terps will match up against talented players from past varsity and club teams. Although Maryland's water polo program is only in its fourth season, the club program was nationally competitive throughout the 1990's.
Assistant coach Meghan Graves will play for and coach the alumni team, while strength and conditioning coach Scott Swope will step in as the varsity team's coach. Head coach Carl Salyer will be busy officiating the match-up.
The alumni expected to attend are Rebecca Thompson, Audrey Lopez, Lisa Vitali, Laura Nolan, Elyse Corwin, Laura Barone, and Meghan Mulhern. Nolan served as team co-captain in the program's inaugural season. Corwin is the older sister of current senior goalie Marissa Corwin, and was the Terps' leading scorer in both 2004 and 2005.
Special guests will drop the ball for the sprint to begin each quarter, and Salyer expects a "good turnout of alumni, family, and friends" in the audience.
