Muracco Garners Co-ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week Nods

Oct. 2, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland field hockey's Nicole Muracco has been selected Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Field Hockey Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. It is the second-straight weekly honor for the freshman, who shares this week's recognition with Boston College's Julia Berkowitz.

A forward from Sewell, N.J., Muracco tallied a pair of goals at No. 8 Virginia to lead the Terps to a 5-1 win last Friday. She scored on her only two shot attempts of the game, notching the first and last goals of the contest. On Sunday, the lone overtime game of the season for Maryland, she netted the game-winning goal in the extra period against No. 20 Michigan to help the No. 1-ranked Terps to a 12-0 record, the best start in school history. Muracco also had an assist in Maryland's only other goal of the game versus the Wolverines.

BC's Berkowitz helped the Eagles to a 2-0 week last week, including an upset of No. 4 Duke.

Maryland, the last undefeated team remaining in the nation this season, will host the Blue Devils in a rematch of last season's NCAA Championship game on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. Help the Terrapins "Red Out" the Duke. Fans who wear red to the game can get a hot dog for $1.
