COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The top-ranked field hockey team closes out the regular-season slate on Friday, Oct. 27 against Appalachian State. The Terps will also celebrate the careers of its six seniors: Kristina Edmonds, Megan Fox, Paula Infante, Christina Restivo, Berber Rischen and Emily Trycinski.
The reigning ACC and NCAA champion Terrapins (17-1) are coming of a 1-0 victory over North Carolina, clinching at least a share of the ACC regular-season title. The Terps play the Mountaineers (1-15) in a final tune-up before the ACC Tournament kicks off Nov. 2-5 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Prior to the start of the game, Maryland will honor its six seniors who will be playing in the final regular-season game of their careers. During this class' tenure, the Terrapins made three-consecutive trips to the NCAA semifinals, winning the national title last season. Maryland has posted a 77-13 record for an 85.6 percent winning percentage.
Among the six honorees is 2005 Honda Award winner Paula Infante (Santiago, Chile). One of the most decorated players in school history, she is one of four players in school history to earn first team All-American honors three times. She is also a three-time All-ACC pick, ranking among the top 10 all-time in school history in points and goals.
Kristina Edmonds (Emmaus, Pa.) has worked her way into the starting lineup after arriving on campus as a freshman, earning Mid-Atlantic All-Region honors last season. Christina Restivo (Hereford, Md.) has helped Maryland post 35 shut outs as a goalkeeper, while Emily Trycinski (Nazareth, Pa.) has played in nearly every game the last two seasons, making eight starts this year. Megan Fox (Zionsville, Pa.) has shown tremendous leadership as a senior, while graduate student Berber Rischen (Rotterdam, Netherlands) has made an immediate impact in her only season after earning 2004 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year nods.
The game is slated for 7 p.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Admission and parking is free. For more information, log onto www.umterps.com.
