
Boston College Volleyball Faces Terps Tuesday Night

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapin women's volleyball team starts a three-game homestand tomorrow night against Boston College at 6 p.m. in the Comcast Center. The Terps (11-13, 4-11 ACC) look to rebound against the Eagles (8-16, 6-9 ACC), then serve as host against Duke (21-3, 14-1 ACC) on Friday at 7 p.m. and Wake Forest (13-11, 9-6 ACC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Parking restrictions are in effect Tuesday night at Comcast Center. Free parking is available in lots 4J and P1.
The contests with Boston College and Duke can be viewed via a live webcast on ACC Select at ACCSelect.com. All games at the Comcast Center are free and can be followed on Gametracker.
Noting the Terrapins
The Terrapins play at home in the Comcast Center for five of their remaining seven games in the regular season, as the team has a 5-4 record in the College Park.
Maryland holds a .181 hitting percentage, with junior outside hitter Jade Brown (.191) leading the Terps at 3.63 kpg. Mary Beth Brown holds a 2.13 kpg for a .192 hitting percentage. Beth Gillming posts 1.98 kpg, with 266 digs (2.89 dpg) for the team.
Freshman Katie Usher (.218) has the team-high of 136 total blocks, adding 1.46 kpg on the year, as the Terps hold a 3.15 bpg. Jade Brown has 67 blocks on the season, including 13 solo.
The Terps hold a 13.21 dpg, with Maggie Schmelzle registering 3.07 dpg for the squad. Gillming (2.89 dpg) and Jade Brown (2.42 dpg) have combined for 467 digs.
Senior setter Teryn Papp leads the team with 5.32 assists, with sophomore Tedi Doucet has 4.54 a/g. Gillming leads the team with 24 service aces.
Last Weekend
The Terps had won three-consecutive matches, before falling to Virginia 3-0 (18-30, 25-30, 20-30), and Virginia Tech in a five-game contest (25-30, 30-26, 12-30, 30-28, 10-15) over the weekend (Nov. 3-4).
Usher (.483) recorded her season high of 17 kills against the Hokies, while Jade Brown notched 13 kills and Mary Beth Brown had nine. The Terps were held to a .115 hitting percentage in the match, as Virginia Tech posted a .209 in the contest.
The Terps had nine blocks, while the Hokies collected 13 on the night. Junior Beth Gillming recorded 23 digs for the squad and Maggie Schmelzle added 18.
In the matchup against Virginia, the Terps outblocked their opponent for their seventh consecutive game, yet Maryland was held to a .200 hitting percentage. Jade Brown led the Terrapins with seven kills and five blocks, as freshman middle blocker Usher had five kills and five blocks. Maggie Schmelzle led all players with eight digs.
Virginia posted an impressive 15 service aces in the match, with Lauren Dickson collecting five alone for the Cavaliers.
Scouting Boston College
Boston College (8-16, 6-9 ACC) is 4-7 on the road and split matches this weekend as it narrowly won a matchup over Virginia Tech (30-25, 30-26, 22-30, 22-30, 16-14), then fell to Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. 3-0 (20-30, 25-30, 21-30).
Junior outside hitter Kelsey Johnson had 33 kills in both matches, posting a .435 hitting percentage against Virginia. Sophomore Brittany Pierpont collected 53 assists against the Hokies, while Abigail Hasebroock collected two solo and six block assists.
The Eagles record a .168 hitting percentage, with Johnson (.194) holding the team-high of 3.89 kpg and senior outside hitter Dorota Niemczewska (.152) registering a 2.83 kpg.
Setter Pierpont (9.74 a/g) leads the team in assists. Senior libero Allison Anderson (5.53 dpg) leads the team, as the Eagles post 15.96 dpg for the season.
The Terps dropped the Oct. 3 contest with the Eagles in Chestnut Hill, Mass. (23-30, 27-30, 22-30). In the matchup, Maryland outblocked the Eagles (11-9), and were led by Jade Brown with 13 kills and four blocks. Gillming had seven kills, while Papp and Doucet combined for 25 assists. Schmelzle finished the match with 10 digs.
Overall, the Terrapins hold a 3-1 series lead over Boston College.
