PINEHURST, N.C. - Sophomore Katie Trotter shot a second-round 75 to take second place individually and help the University of Maryland extend its lead in the team standings Monday at the Pinehurst Challenge women's golf tournament.

Trotter has a 36-hole total of 5-over-par 149, two shots behind Anastasia Kostina of Washington State, who took over the lead with an even-par 72 and a 147 total.

Maryland's Katie Stepanek was tied for third at 150 after firing a 77 on Monday, while Jessica Reno moved into a tie for eighth after her 76 Monday gave her a two-round total of 153.

Maryland shot a 310 as a team, extending its two-shot lead to eight strokes over a three-team group tied for second. Maryland's 36-hole total of 612 was followed by Iowa, UNC Wilmington and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs, who trailed the Terps by two after Sunday's first round, shot 316 on Monday.

Also for Maryland, Kelly MacWhinnie was tied for 38th at 160 and Kelly Calkin was tied for 46th at 161.

The final round will be played on Tuesday.
