CITRUS SPRINGS, Fla. -
Sophomore Kelly Calkin led three University of Maryland players in the top six as the Terrapins won their second straight team title Tuesday by capturing the Lady Herd / El Diablo Intercollegiate women's golf tournament.
The Terrapins shot 310 as a team in Tuesday's final round, finishing the 54-hole event with a 916 total. Maryland, which took a 10-shot lead into the final round, ended up winning by nine strokes over Florida Atlantic. Missouri State finished third at 938, while Western Carolina was fourth at 943 despite shooting the best team score of the day at 307.
Calkin finished three consistent rounds on the par-72 layout at the El Diablo Golf and Country Club. She finished with rounds of 76, 75 and 75 for a 226 total that placed her third in the individual standings.
Katie Trotter finished fourth overall at 229 after firing a 77 on Tuesday, while Katie Stepanek tied for fifth at 230 following her final-round 78. Kelly MacWhinnie also got a top-20 finish by tying for 16th at 236, while Jessica Reno tied for 29th with a 243 total. Freshman Madeleine Lovette, playing as an individual, tied for 67th at 264.
Individually, second-round leader June Bolme of Florida Atlantic shot a 72 to hold on for the victory. She finished with a 54-hole total of 220, three shots ahead of teammate Praewnapa Phol-Uayporn.
Maryland plays next Monday and Tuesday at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational.
