LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Loyola Marymount scored five unanswered goals in the second period to take an 8-1 lead, then the fourth-ranked Lions went on to take a 10-2 victory over Maryland in a women's water polo match played Wednesday.
The Terps, now 13-5, are 3-1 on their eight-game trip to Southern California. After a day off on Thursday, Maryland will also face UCLA among other schools.
Blaise Stanicic and Christen Vagts each had goals for Maryland, while Ashleigh Jobson made five saves and Marissa Corwin had one for the Terps.
Maryland scored the first goal of the game, but LMU rallied to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. Loyola Marymount then rolled to leads of 8-1 and 9-1 after the second and third quarters.
"We made some minor mistakes in that second quarter and LMU is a good enough team that they made us pay," said Maryland Coach Carl Salyer. "This was a good experience for us. That's the level we're aspiring to and we're young, so it's good for us to play teams like this."
