POSITION VACANCY
POSITION TITLE: Learning Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics
CATEGORY: Full-time, Contingent II
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Learning Specialist will assist the Academic Support & Career Development Unit (ASCDU) with the day-to-day operations of the academic enrichment programs and services delivered to student-athletes, especially the Individualize Learning Program (ILP). Specific responsibilities include: serving as an instructor for a section of EDCP 108K (Study Skills Course); assisting with ILP mentor training; teaching academic learning strategies and other skills for improving performance and achievement levels in academic areas, including reading, writing, math and other pertinent skills to selected participants; preparing reports and other administrative tasks associated with the Academic Enrichment Program; and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Counseling, Education, Special Education, or related field. Must have at least 2 years of experience working with secondary or post-secondary students. The ideal candidate will have training or experience in teaching learning strategies and other study skill instructional techniques. Working knowledge of NCAA academic rules and regulations preferred. This individual must possess strong communication skills to develop and maintain effective interaction with a diverse population. Proficiency with PC programs and applications and ability to maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information required.
SALARY: Commensurate with experience.
