The No. 34 Maryland Women's Tennis Team ended their regular season with a win over No. 25 Virginia, 4- 3. The match played at the College Park Tennis Center on Saturday runs Maryland's record to 12 wins, 10 losses, 5- 6 ACC.
No. 12 doubles team Ramona But and Marianne Baker started out strong for the Terps, easily defeating 11th-ranked Lori Stern and Kristen James, 8-2. Maryland also won at No. 2 doubles, asJennifer Dent and Michal Amir defeated Virginia, 8-5, giving Maryland a 2-0 advantage over Virginia.
In the singles matches, No. 3 singles Veronika Subertova lost to Stern of UVA, 6-4, 6-1. Next to finish was Dent at the fourth singles, who also fell, 6-2, 6-4.
At the No. 1 singles position. 40th-ranked But defeated Rachel DelPriore, 6-3, 6-1.
The Terrapin's No. 6 singles slot Neda Mihneva fell 6-0, 6-3. However, 65th-ranked Baker added another win to the score board, tieing the match at 3-3. Baker won her match in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Amir was the last to finish for the Terps at No. 5 singles. Amir won the first set, 6-2, but fell in the second, 5-7. In the last set, Amir quickly captured the victory, 6-1, giving Maryland the final point to win the match.
Maryland will head to Cary, N.C. on April 20-23 to compete in the ACC Championships.
