PRINCETON, N.J.- The University of Maryland women's water polo team fell to CWPA Southern Division rival Princeton 13-4 in the two teams' third match-up this season. The Terps had beaten then-ranked No. 16 Princeton on March 11, then came up short against the Tigers on April 8.
Freshman Blaise Stanicic led Maryland scoring with two goals. Freshman Elizabeth Hopkins and sophomore Allie Houseal each contributed one goal.
Senior Marissa Corwin played the first half in goal, blocking two while allowing six. In the third quarter, freshman Ashleigh Jobson blocked one and allowed three goals scored against. Sophomore Anna Gossett finished out the game in goal with one block and four goals allowed.
The Terps were down 6-3 at halftime, but would only score one goal in the second half. Maryland head coach Carl Salyer stated that the final score was not indicative of the Terps' offensive effort, because they took many quality shots that the Princeton goalie was able to block.
With the win against Bucknell earlier in the day, the Terrapins qualify to play in the CWPA Eastern Division Championship in Providence, R.I. next weekend.
