Maryland Water Polo Finishes Season With Win Over Harvard

April 30, 2006

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Strong defense by the University of Maryland women's water polo team held Harvard to three goals in the Terrapins' fourth-quarter comeback victory over the Crimson. Harvard led 3-2 at the end of the third quarter, but the Terps scored the final two goals of the game to take home seventh place in the CWPA Eastern Championships.

Scorers for Maryland were freshmen Elizabeth Hopkins with two, and Blaise Stanicic and Bryndis Klein with one goal each.

The Terrapin defense was anchored by senior goalie Marissa Corwin who blocked 11 while allowing only three goals scored. Corwin blocked six to hold Harvard scoreless in the first quarter.

The game was the teams' third meeting this season, with Harvard winning 8-7 on February 19 and Maryland taking home a 5-3 victory at the ECAC Championships on April 1.
