COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland athletes Mandy Pascual (gymnastics) and Ramona But (tennis) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 first team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Delia Cox (women's lacrosse) was named to the second team. Pascual and But have been added to the national ballot as candidates for CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.
Pascual, a senior biochemistry major from Aiea, Hawaii, maintained a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in chemical engineering in May, 2005. Pascual is a four-time CoSIDA All-District team award winner. An uneven bar specialist, she shares the school record (9.925) on that event. She has earned first team All-EAGL conference honors twice and has competed at NCAA Regionals three times in her career. She is a five-time EAGL All-Academic team member and a four-time NACGC Scholastic All-American. Pascual recently earned a 2006 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship award and plans to attend medical school.
But is a four-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, the first women's tennis player in school history to achieve that milestone. She played No. 1 singles and doubles in each of the last two seasons for the Terrapins, and finished the year with a 17-6 record in singles and currently has a 26-5 doubles record while paired with Marianne Baker.
A native of Timisoara, Romania, But was selected to play in the 2006 NCAA Singles Tournament, her third straight appearance in that draw. But lost in the first round of the NCAA draw, but was to play in the NCAA Doubles Tournament with Baker. But was 33rd in the nation on the FILA Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings in singles, and she and Baker were 11th in the nation in doubles on the rankings that were posted prior to the NCAA Tournaments. But, an economics major, maintained a 3.76 cumulative grade-point average. This is her first appearance on the Academic All-District Team.
Senior midfielder Delia Cox led Maryland in 2006 with a career-high 60 goals, 22 assists 82 and points, helping the Terps to a 12-8 record and their 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. She was named to the All-ACC team for the third straight year, and was an All-ACC Tournament selection as well. Cox, a Communication major, maintained a 3.28 cumulative grade-point average.
CoSIDA's District 2 includes universities in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
