Stanicic Invited to USA Water Polo Training Camp

May 26, 2006

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Blaise Stanicic, a sophomore-to-be at the University of Maryland, has been invited to a training camp to compete for spots on the USA Women's Water Polo Senior National and Junior National teams.

Stanicic, who scored 29 goals, had 21 assists for 50 points for the Terrapins this season, was one of 17 players selected from four tryout camps in late May.

At the training camp, to be held June 2-4 in Los Alamitos, Calif., players will be selected for two Senior National Teams and one Junior National Team.

Stanicic attended the open tryout at Princeton, N.J., along with Terrapin teammates Christen Vagts and Elizabeth Hopkins, as well as incoming freshman Shannon Simmerly.

Stanicic started 31 of Maryland's 33 games this season and led the team with 46 steals.

Maryland finished its third year of varsity water polo with a 19-14 record, its best ever.
