POSITION VACANCY

 

POSITION TITLE:                Senior Associate/Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations

 

DEPARTMENT:                    Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA)

 

CATEGORY:                         Exempt, Full-time (100033)

 

UNIVERSITY:  The University of Maryland operates one of the most successful athletic programs in the country, within the context of a University that has 79 graduate and undergraduate programs ranked in their respective Top 25 by US News & World Report.  The University has enjoyed a decade of momentum, where the average GPAs of entering freshmen have increased from 3.01 to 3.9, and the average entering SAT is now 1270.  The beautiful 1,580 acre campus is located between the cultural and population centers of Washington, D. C and Baltimore, MD, and the Athletic Department administration offices are housed in the state-of-the art, award-winning Comcast Center.  Nearby Columbia, MD was recently ranked as one of the nation's top 20 communities in which to raise a family in Best Places to Raise Your Family: The Top 100 Affordable Communities in the US.  Maryland Athletics won 4 national championships during the 2006 academic year and 9 additional national championships since 1994, for a total of 13 over the last 12 years.   Maryland has been selected by US News & World Report as one of the "Top 20" Athletic programs in the country and competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Senior Associate AD for External Operations reports directly to the Director of Athletics as a member of the Athletic Department's senior management team.  This individual is responsible for overseeing the marketing, media relations, and ticket office units to ensure their effective operation and to move toward a model for customer service that is extremely proactive and user friendly.  This individual will: (1) represent the department and the Director of Athletics in interactions with various campus groups, external constituents, and corporate entities, (2) take the lead role with special projects, including student ticket distribution policy and interactions with development staff related to marketing, corporate partners, and the capital campaign, (3) serve as a proactive sport supervisor of assigned varsity sports, including overseeing budgets, recruiting, academics, compliance, and all other related issues if desired, (4) respond to questions and comments of student-athletes, alumni, boosters, campus faculty, staff, and guests on behalf of the Director of Athletics related to  his/her units, and (5) lead in the development and implementation of RFPs, when appropriate, for improved results for multimedia rights, apparel deals, and merchandising agreements. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred. Requires at least 5 years of successful administrative experience in a collegiate athletic program, business, or other athletic related organization.  Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills required.  Proven ability to manage and complete multiple tasks in a timely fashion. Must be a self-starter with an excellent work ethic and appreciation for the value of a Division I-A athletic program to the University community.  Proven ability to lead and motivate others to achieve in a team oriented environment.

 

SALARY:        $80,000 - $110,000
