COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland has released 2006 football signee Melvin Alaeze from his scholarship, head coach Ralph Friedgen announced Wednesday.
A defensive end from Randallstown, Md., Alaeze was released due to a violation of the terms of his financial aid agreement at Maryland. Every prospective student-athlete is required to sign a financial aid agreement upon agreeing to sign a National Letter of Intent. Alaeze signed a letter of intent at Maryland during the February 2006 signing period.
"It is unfortunate that Melvin Alaeze was not able to realize his potential as an athlete or a student at the University of Maryland," said head coach Ralph Friedgen. "He is a rare physical talent and we wish him well in his future endeavors."
