PONTE VEDRA, Fla. - The Atlantic Coast Conference completed its final day of player and coach interviews today at the annual ACC Kickoff, and the University of Maryland football team was picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic Division in this year's preseason media poll.
This year's ACC Kickoff, held at Ponte Vedra, Florida's Sawgrass Marriott resort and adjacent to the conference's championship game host city of Jacksonville, featured two days of interviews and entertainment of the conference's 12 teams as well as local and national media affiliates.
The Terrapins traveled to the event with head coach Ralph Friedgen - who interviewed today - and players Sam Hollenbach and Josh Wilson. Hollenbach and Wilson went through the interview process yesterday, played in the annual Marvin "Skeeter" Francis golf scramble, and returned to College Park this evening.
In this year's media poll, Maryland finished fourth in the Atlantic Division, trailing Florida State, Clemson and Boston College while ranking ahead of NC State and Wake Forest. Miami was picked to win the Coastal Division. Of the league's 12 teams, the Terrapins' 163 votes were ninth-most.
Friedgen did not place much concern in the media's preseason opinion.
"You can write whatever names you want right now (in the media poll)," said Friedgen. "Check them again in December and that will be what matters."
