UNIVERSITY:  The University of Maryland operates one of the most successful athletic programs in the country, within the context of a University that has 79 graduate and undergraduate programs ranked in their respective Top 25 by US News & World Report.  The University has enjoyed a decade of momentum, where the average GPAs of entering freshmen have increased from 3.01 to 3.9, and the average entering SAT is now 1270.  The beautiful 1,580 acre campus is located between the cultural and population centers of Washington, D. C and Baltimore, MD, and the Athletic Department administration offices are housed in the state-of-the art, award-winning Comcast Center.  Nearby Columbia, MD was recently ranked as one of the nation's top 20 communities in which to raise a family in Best Places to Raise Your Family: The Top 100 Affordable Communities in the US.  Maryland Athletics won 4 national championships during the 2006 academic year and 9 additional national championships since 1994, for a total of 13 over the last 12 years.   Maryland has been selected by US News & World Report as one of the "Top 20" Athletic programs in the country and competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference.  Games are played at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, located across from Comcast Center, with a seating capacity of 1400, team locker rooms, and athletic training facilities. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Organize and direct all aspects of a nationally competitive, Division I Women's Lacrosse program offering the NCAA maximum number of scholarships. This individual will oversee two full-time assistant coaches.  Specific responsibilities include identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions; developing, implementing, and enforcing team rules; overseeing the administrative process for team travel, budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) program that student-athletes are expected to be successful athletically and academically. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations, as well as dedication to full academic and social development of student-athletes are essential. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required. Must have at least 3-5 years of demonstrated successful head coaching experience in lacrosse, preferably at the Division I collegiate level. Must have demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.  Excellent and demonstrated communication and leadership skills. 

 

SALARY:       Nationally competitive and commensurate with experience.
