Katie Stepanek and Kelly Calkin each shot 2-over-par rounds of 74 Tuesday to lead the University of Maryland to an eighth-place finish in the team standings at the Cougar Classic women's golf tournament.
The event was the first of the fall season for the Terrapins, who earned their first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship last spring.
Stepanek tied for 14th with a 220 total over the 54-hole event, while Calkin was tied for 20th at 222. Kelly MacWhinnie finished with a 76 on Tuesday for a 226 total and a tie for 36th, with Jessica Reno also posting a 76 for a 231 total and a tie for 53rd. Katie Trotter tied for 68th at 237.
As a team, Maryland shot 300 in Tuesday's final round, finishing with an 897 total. Florida State won the team title at 873, one shot better than North Carolina and three strokes ahead of Tennessee.
Lauren Hunt of North Carolina was the medalist, going wire-to-wire for her victory. Hunt finished at 6-under-par 210 for the three rounds, beating Caroline Westrup of Florida State by two shots and Whitney Brummett of Florida State by three strokes.

Maryland next plays in the Napa Grill Cardinal Cup on Monday and Tuesday in Louisville, Ky.
