Maryland's Muracco Tabbed ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week

Sept. 25, 2006

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Nicole Muracco has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week after helping the top-ranked Terrapins remain the lone unbeaten team in the league this season. The forward notched the game-winning goal that lifted the Terps to a 3-2 victory at No. 2 Wake Forest last Saturday.

After Wake Forest tied the game 2-2 in the second half, Muracco netted the game-winner with a little over two minutes remaining in the game. The goal was the eighth of the season for the freshman from Sewell, N.J., who currently leads the Terps in that category.

The win over the Demon Deacons was Maryland's first in Winston-Salem since 1999. In addition, Maryland extended its winning streak to 19 straight games, dating back to last season.

One of only two undefeated teams in the nation this season, Maryland will put its perfect record on the line with a pair of road games this week. The Terps travel to Virginia for a 6 p.m. contest on Friday, September 29, and then play Michigan on the campus of Penn State University in State College, Pa., on Sunday, October 1.
