COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With its 3-2 victory over Wake Forest over the weekend, the Terrapin field hockey team solidified its position as the No. 1 team in the nation. Maryland, who has been No. 1 since the preseason, picked up 12 more first-place votes from last week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association top 20 poll, and was nearly a unanimous No. 1 pick this week, the NFHCA announced Tuesday.

The Terrapins' victory over No. 2 Wake Forest gave them their 10th victory of the season, the first team in the nation to win 10 games. It also extended their win streak to 19, dating back to last year. Maryland is also 2-0 in the ACC and first in the standings. The Terps are also one of just two teams in the country who are undefeated.

Freshman Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J.) was named ACC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring the game-winning goal against the Demon Deacons, leading the team to its first victory in Winston-Salem, N.C., since 1999. She was also selected www.womensfieldhockey.com's National Rookie of the Week. She leads the balanced attack with eight goals on the season.

Fans can also follow the Terps on the University of Maryland's WMUC radio, with a new weekly show - the Missy Meharg Show which airs Wednesday's at 4:30 p.m. The broadcast is also webcast at www.wmucsports.com. This week, assistant coach Marybeth Freeman and senior vice captain Kristina Edmonds (Emmaus, Pa.) will update listeners on the season.

The Terrapins will put their winning streak on the line this weekend when they face two top 20 teams. Maryland travels to No. 8 Virginia on Friday, Sept. 29, then play No. 20 Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 1 at a neutral field on the campus of Penn State University in State College, Pa.
