Freshman Hilary Lawson placed fourth and senior Katie Trotter tied for fifth individually to lead the University of Maryland to a second-place finish in the team standings Monday at the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational golf tournament played on the Penn State Blue Course.
Lawson finished with a 54-hole total of 229 after closing with a 78 in Monday's final round. Trotter had Maryland's best round of the day with a 75 to fire a 230 total. Also for the Terrapins, Kelly Calkin and Kerri Connolly each tied for 15th at 234, while Lara Peffley was 22nd at 239.
Carla Wasienko of Maryland, playing as an individual in the event, tied for 25th at 241 after shooting 77 on Monday.
The Terrapins shot a 308 as a team in the final round Monday, with a 925 total for three rounds placing behind only Princeton's 910. Penn State was third at 935, while Western Michigan was fourth at 938.
Individually, Laura Bavaird of Western Michigan finished atop the leaderboard at 223, one stroke ahead of Susannah Aboff of Princeton and two shots ahead of Princeton's Marlowe Boukis.
Maryland plays next on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Spider Fall Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond.
