COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Seniors Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) and Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) both recorded 16 kills and the University of Maryland volleyball team picked up an important Atlantic Coast Conference victory, 3-1, against the Florida State Seminoles at Comcast Pavilion Friday night.

Maryland (11-6, 3-5) started slowly in the first game against Florida State (8-9, 3-5), falling behind by as many as 11 points before losing by four, 26-30. However, the Terps took the next three games 30-28, 30-28, 30-18.

Game two went back and forth the whole way. With the game knotted at 28, the Terps took the win on back-to-back kills by junior outside hitter Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va) and Jade Brown.

The Terps led by a consistent five to six points throughout much of game three before holding off a late Seminole rally.

Maryland was never threatened in the fourth game, taking an early 15-8 lead before finishing the match on a 15-10 run.

Gillming and Jade Brown were both efficient in their attack as Gillming hit an impressive .600 in the match while Brown Converted 37.5 percent of her attack attempts.

Sophomore middle blocker Meredith Doyle (McLean, Va.) filled in admirably for injured sophomore Katie Usher (Vienna, Va.), leading the Terps with 12 blocks while adding six kills.

Sophomore setter Hayley Hanson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led Maryland with 26 assists, while junior Tedi Doucet (Austin, Texas) had a successful return from a foot injury with 18 assists. Doucet also had 10 digs.

Junior Maggie Schmelzle (Cincinnati, Ohio) played libero the whole match and led the Terps with 11 digs.
