Beth Gillming Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

Oct. 2, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland senior outside hitter Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) was solid offensively and defensively in a pair of wins last weekend against North Carolina and NC State and her efforts were rewarded today as she was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Gillming, Maryland's first ACC Player of the Week since senior Jade Brown (Atlanta, Ga.) won it in early September last season, registered 30 kills on .338 hitting combined in the victories over the Tar Heels and Wolfpack, improving Maryland's record to 10-4 and 2-3 in the ACC. Gillming also contributed 33 digs over the weekend, including 24 against North Carolina. Gillming averaged 3.75 kills per game and 4.125 digs per game.

For the season, Gillming leads the Terps in five statistical categories: kills (176), kills per game (3.14), total attacks (440), digs (214) and digs per game (3.82).

Gillming and the Terrapins hit the road this weekend with matches at Virginia Tech 7 p.m. Friday and Virginia at 5 p.m. Saturday.
