
Two Terps Named to Senior All-Star Field Hockey Game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Monday its Senior All-Star Field Hockey Game selections. Among those picked to play in the game are Maryland's Kathryn Masson and Janneke van Leeuwen.
The Senior All-Star Game will take place the weekend of the NCAA Championship, which is being held at the University of Maryland's Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 16-18. The all-star game itself, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free to the public.
Kathryn Masson (Richmond, British Columbia) and Janneke van Leeuwen (Hilversum, Netherlands) have helped the Terps post a 16-1 record, while earning a No. 2 national ranking in the National Field Hockey Coaches Top 20 poll. Maryland won a school record 16 games to open the season, before falling to No. 1 North Carolina last weekend.
Masson boasts a 0.93 goals against average, the second-best in the nation. Her 79.1 save percentage is ranked 13th. She is among the best goalkeepers in Maryland history, with a career 0.94 GAA, which ranks second all-time. Her 21 shutouts are tied for fourth all-time, as well. Masson is a two-time All-American and was the first Terrapin netminder to be named to the first team last season.
Van Leeuwen has also been a staple in the Maryland lineup since she was a freshman, earning 2004 ACC Rookie of the Year honors. She has collected 49 career assists, which ties her for fourth all-time at Maryland. She is currently second on the team with 10 assists and 32 points. She has scored a career-high 11 goals, which is the third-most on the team. She also ranked in the top 20 in the nation in points per game (18th, 1.88) and assists per game (13th, 0.59).
Maryland closes out the regular season hosting Villanova on Friday, Oct. 26. Prior to the start of the game, the senior class will be honored for Senior Night. Admission and parking to the game are free.
