The Terrapins dominated both sides of the net to knock off the visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons as Maryland volleyball swept its way (30-19, 30-21, 30-17) to victory Friday night at Comcast Pavilion to remain unbeaten in College Park this season.
Maryland (14-8, 6-7) out-hit Wake Forest (7-15, 4-9) .380-.113 offensively and had nearly three times as many blocks defensively, finishing with a 14-5 advantage.
The Terps put three players in double figures in kills. Senior outside hitter Jade Brown (Atlanta, Va.) paced Maryland with 13 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Katie Usher (Vienna, Va.) notched 12 and senior outside hitter Beth Gillming (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished with 11.
Sophomore middle blocker Meredith Doyle (McLean, Va.) led the Terps with eight blocks, two of them solos. Usher had five blocks and Brown and junior outside hitter Mary Beth Brown (Vienna, Va.) both finished with four.
Junior setter Tedi Doucet (Austin, Texas) continued to play well coming off her foot injury, leading Maryland in assists with 24 while sophomore Hayley Hanson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) registered 21 assists.
Junior libero Maggie Schmelzle finished with a team-high 16 digs while Gillming also reached double figured with 11.
The Terps have Saturday off, before welcoming the No. 14 Duke Blue Devils at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game is being televised by CSTV and will be broadcast Monday at 8 p.m. as the AVCA Game of the Week.
