Katie Trotter shot an opening-round 77 to lead University of Maryland players after the first round of the Edwin Watts / Palmetto Intercollegiate women's golf tournament being played at the Oak Point Golf Club.
The second round, scheduled for Monday, was not completed due to darkness. Players will finish the second round and play the third and final round beginning on Tuesday morning. Teams had finished between 13 and 16 holes when play was suspended.
The Terrapins finished the first round in a tie for fourth place after shooting 313 as a team. Also for Maryland, Lara Peffley and Hilary Lawson ended the opening 18 holes in a tie for 20th with rounds of 78, with Kelly Calkin and Kerri Connolly in a tie for 40th at 80.
The Terrapins were tied with Baylor after 18 holes and were just five shots behind East Carolina, four strokes behind Kansas State and two shots behind East Tennessee State. Maryland was tied for sixth when play was suspended at a team score of 41-over-par.
Individually, Trotter was still tied for 11th after going 2-over-par through the first 13 holes. Peffley was tied for 14th, also 2-over through 14.
Individually, Michelle Regan of Kansas State led the tournament when darkness fell, standing at 1-over-par on the leaderboard through 15 holes of the second round. Emelie Lind of East Carolina, Claire Starkie of Georgia State and Maria Ringdahl of East Tennessee State were tied for second, one stroke behind.
