A Quick Look At The Terps
• Maryland enters this weekend's matches with a 5-8-3 overall record, 0-7-1 in conference play.

• The Terps are coming off of a 2-1 loss in overtime to Virginia Tech on Sunday, Oct. 28. Redshirt junior Nataly Arias scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Terps a 1-0 lead, but the Hokies tied the match early in the second half and won it in the fourth minute of the first overtime.

Scouting The Eagles
• Boston College, which is in just its third season in the ACC, is 10-3-3 overall this season and has wrapped up a berth in the ACC Tournament with a 4-3-2 conference mark coming into Thursday's game. In their last outing, the Eagles defeated No. 3 Virginia 1-0 in Newton, Mass., on a Natalie Crutchfield goal in the 88th minute.

• Boston College is led on offense by forwards Brooke Kowlton and Gina DiMartino. Knowlton leads the team with five goals and 10 points. DiMartino, the 2006 ACC freshman of the year, is second on the team with nine points on two goals and five assists.

• Defensively, Boston College has been solid once again in 2007, allowing its opponents only six goals in 16 games. Goalkeeper Sarah Buonomo has started all 15 games and has a 0.37 GAA and nine shutouts.

• Head Coach Alison Kulik is in her 11th season at the helm of the BC program and has compiled a 138-70-20 (.649) record. Overall, Kulik has been a head coach for 12 seasons and is 142-78-23 (.632) overall.

The Boston College Series
• The Maryland-Boston College series is in its infancy with the teams meeting just twice previously, both ending in 2-1 decisions. The Terps took the victory at Ludwig Field in 2005, while the Eagles responded with a win at home last season.

• Last year's match saw Lauren Gamble give the Terps an early 1-0 lead, but BC tied the match midway through the first half and put in the game-winner in the 56th minute.

• In that 2005 meeting, it was a pair of freshmen that scored goals to give Maryland a win on Senior Day. Kimmy Bunting scored in the 33rd minute to give Maryland a 1-0 lead, but BC tied the game just two minutes later on a goal by Tara Luciani. Aimee Bresani proved to be the hero for the Terps, scoring her fist collegiate goal on a header in the 50th minute.

Scouting The WolfPack
• NC State is 6-8-3 (0-7-1 ACC) on the season after splitting a pair of games last week. The Pack lost at No. 7 North Carolina 4-1 last Thursday before beating Francis Marion at home 3-0 this past Sunday. NC State hosts Wake Forest on Thursday before heading to College Park.

• The Wolfpack is led by junior forward Lindsay Vera with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. Sophomore forward Chantalle Dugas leads NC State in assists with four.

• Defensively, freshman Rachel Barnette took over the starting goalkeeper duties on Oct. 18 in a 2-2 draw with Clemson. She has started the last four matches for the Wolfpack. For the season Barnette has played 487 minutes with a 2.03 GAA.

• Head Coach Laura Kerrigan is in her 10th season at the helm of the NC State program and has compiled a 79-93-16 (.462) overall record.

The NC State Series
• The Maryland-NC State series dates back to the start of the Terps' varsity program in 1987. In fact, NC State, along with Virginia and North Carolina are the only teams to have played Maryland at least once in each varsity season for the past 20 years.

• Last season saw the Wolfpack pull out a 1-0 win in Raleigh, N.C. Nikki Resnick made 10 stops in the match for the Terps, but NC State was able to get the game's lone goal off of a corner kick by Katie Ruiz that Meredith Parrilla got on the end of and finished it with a header in the 79th minute.

• The last time NC State came to College Park, Md., Maryland won a 2-1 thriller in overtime over the Wolfpack on Oct. 13, 2005. Sarah Sample scored her first goal as a Terp in the 93rd minute off an assist from Kaila Sciascia to give Maryland the victory. The Terps took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play on a goal by Kimmy Francis. But the Wolfpack withstood a frenzied Maryland attack and tied the game in the 78th minute, sending the game into overtime.

Senior Salute
• Sunday's game against NC State will mark the final match in the careers of four Maryland Terrapins. Seniors Melissa Hornfeck, Ashly Kennedy, Shelley McDuff and Kelly Rozumalski will take to Ludwig Field for the final time.

• Hornfeck was a two-time NSCAA/adidas National Junior College Player of the Year before joining the Terps in 2006. During her two seasons in College Park the Odenton, Md., native has played in 30 games with 26 starts to her credit. She scored two goals and added an assist in Maryland's 6-0 win over UMBC last season.

• Kennedy is a two-time team captain who has started every match she has played as a Terp. A tough, hard-nosed defender, the Edgewater, Md., native has amassed five goals and three assists in her career for 13 points. During her four playing seasons the Terps have earned 22 shutouts. Kennedy was honored as a freshman All-American by SoccerBuzz in 2003 when the Terps earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

• McDuff has become the Terps' most consistent player over the past two seasons, starting all 34 matches leading up to this week's games. The Ellicott City, Md., native does all of the little things for the Terps that often are easy for average fans to overlook. Her one career point came on an assist on a Kimmy Francis goal in a 4-0 win over Rhode Island in 2005. As a freshmen, McDuff was a key member of Maryland's Sweet 16 team.

• Rozumalski has been a dynamic offensive performer for Maryland over the past four seasons. The Middleburgh, N.Y., native is tied for ninth on the school's all-time shots list with 126. She scored three goals as a freshman, including one in a 2-1 upset of No. 3 UCLA, to help lead the team to the NCAA Sweet 16. She's currently enjoying her finest offensive season and is second on the team with seven points on two goals and a career-high three assists.

Playing Overtime
• The 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky marked the third-straight home opener that has ended in a scoreless tie. In 2005 and 2006 the Terps played to a 0-0 draw against Towson.

• Maryland played five overtime games last season, going 0-1-4 in those matches. All four ties ended in 0-0 finishes, tying the 2006 Michigan Wolverines for the most 0-0 ties in a season in NCAA history.

• During the past four seasons, Maryland has played 27 overtime games (nearly 40% of its total games) with a record of 4-9-14 in those games.

• The Terps have played eight overtime matches this season tying the program record for overtime games in a season. Maryland is 1-4-3 in OT this year. The 2004 team also played in eight overtime contests, going 2-2-4.

Offensive Defense
• Maryland defenders - Brittany Cummins, Mary Casey, Ashly Kennedy and Mallory Baker - have all tallied points for the Terps this season. Kennedy has two goals and an assist and is tied for third on the team with five points. Casey has a goal and two assists and is tied for fifth in points with four. Baker and Cummins each have one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Yewande Balogun added her name to Maryland's list of defensive players with points in the 2-0 win over Lehigh on Sept. 30. She became the first Terrapin goalkeeper since 1998 to assist on a goal. The only defensive regular to not have a point this season is freshman Olivia Onyeador, but she only moved into the starting line-up regularly when Balogun broke her foot. Casey then moved to keeper, opening up a center back spot for Onyeador.

Impact Freshmen
• Through its first 16 games, Maryland has played 10 freshmen, including six who have started matches.

• Goalkeeper Yewande Balogun logged 1392 minutes for the Terps in their first 15 games and posted a 0.84 GAA with five shutouts to her credit. Balogun will miss the final three games due to a broken foot suffered in the Virginia match.

Mallory Baker and Caitlin McDowell each picked up their first collegiate assists in the 2-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. Baker has started every game this season for Maryland, while McDowell has made 10 of 11 starts.

Kylie Ricker earned her first collegiate start against Loyola Marymount at the Hoosier Classic on Sept. 9, and responded with the first goal of her career.

Annesia Faulkner has been a spark off the bench for the Terps, but earned her first collegiate start in the team's ACC opener at No. 14 Clemson.

Olivia Onyeador made her first career start against No. 12 North Carolina. She played a tremendous match at the right back spot, filling in for the injured Mary Casey. She moved back into the starting line-up against Virginia Tech when Casey replaced Balogun in goal.

The Last Time ...
• With both goals in Maryland's 2-0 win over Lehigh on Sept. 30 Kaila Sciascia became the first Terrapin to score multiple goals in a game since teammate Melissa Hornfeck scored twice in a 6-0 rout of UMBC on Sept. 4, 2006. Sciascia's four points vs. the Mountain Hawks is also the most by a Terp since that UMBC game as Hornfeck added an assist to total five points.

• Freshman goalkeeper Yewande Balogun joined former Terp netminders Riki-Ann Serrins and Ali Wolff as Maryland keepers to tally points in a game. Balogun assisted Sciascia's second goal in a 2-0 win over Lehigh, clearing the ball past the Mountain Hawk defense, allowing Sciascia to run onto the ball and finish the play past the diving Lehigh goalkeeper. Serrins was the last Maryland keeper to earn an assist, helping on Emily Janss' goal against Wake Forest on Oct. 25, 1998. Wolff is still the only Terrapin keeper to score a goal when she scored on Duke on Oct. 17, 1997.

Take A Shot
• The 2007 season opener was one for the record books for the Terps. In the 0-0 tie with Eastern Kentucky, Maryland took a school record 55 shots. Nataly Arias led the Terps with 11 shots, while sophomore Emily Maynard took eight.

Playing The Best
• Once again in 2007, Maryland will play a challenging schedule. The Terps take on six teams ranked in this weeks NSCAA poll. The Terps play No. 4 North Carolina (L, 2-1 OT), No. 6 Virginia (L,3-0), No. 10 Boston College (Nov. 1), No. 11 USC (L, 2-1 OT), No. 15 Florida State (L, 2-0) and No. 18 Wake Forest (L, 1-0). Maryland also plays Miami (L, 1-0) and Clemson (L, 0-1 OT), which received votes this week.

Beating The Best
• During seven of the past nine seasons, including 2007, Maryland has at least one upset win or tie of a top-10 ranked team: 4-3 win at No. 9 Duke on Sept. 19, 1999 and a 2-1 victory over Clemson on Oct. 17, 1999; a 3-1 win over No. 4 Penn State on Aug. 29, 2000; a 1-0 overtime over No. 8 Clemson on Oct. 13, 2001 and a 1-1 tie at No. 2 North Carolina on Nov. 1, 2002. The Terps stunned No. 3 UCLA 2-1 at the Virginia Soccer Classic on Sept. 12, 2004. A month and a half later, Maryland beat No. 10 Duke 1-0 in overtime at Ludwig Field. The Terps topped all of those victories with a 1-0 shutout of No. 2 seed Penn State in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The win also snapped the Nittany Lions 39-game home winning streak and was head coach Paula Wilkins' first-ever loss at Jeffrey Field. The Terps extended that streak in 2005 with a 2-1 upset of No. 8 Boston College on Oct. 29 at Ludwig Field. Jeffrey Field proved lucky for the Terps again in the 2006 season opener as they knocked off No. 10 Tennessee 1-0 at the Penn State Classic on Aug. 25.
