COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland freshman Katie O'Donnell was named to the 25-player U.S. National Field Hockey Team roster for the five-game series vs. Japan, which is being played at the University of Maryland. The U.S. team has already won the first game of the series, 2-1, on Sunday. O'Donnell will be available to play for the Red, White and Blue on Monday and Wednesday night's games.
This is the second opportunity for Maryland fans to watch the U.S. National Team play in College Park. Last year, the USFHA hosted the Four Nation Tournament at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. Games will be played on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of this week at 7 p.m. The Terps will open the doubleheader on Friday, Oct. 12 hosting No. 13 Old Dominion at 5 p.m.
Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) will be available for National Team head coach Lee Bodimeade on Monday and Wednesday, before putting on the Terrapin uniform again on Friday against the Lady Monarchs. O'Donnell has been a member of the U.S. squad since she was 16 years old and was the youngest athlete to earn a senior international cap for the United States. She has been an integral part of the Terrapin's school-record 14-0 start this season, leading the team with 14 goals and 14 assists, while also scoring five game winners.
Other Terrapins participating in this week's U.S. National Team series vs. Japan are former All-Americans Lauren Powley and Dina Rizzo. Both started in Sunday's win over the Japanese. Powley recently helped the U.S. to a second-place finish at the Pan American Games in August. Rizzo was named to the Pan American roster but had to sit out because of injury.
