O'Donnell Selected ACC Field Hockey Player of the Week for a Third Time

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - For the third time this season, freshman Katie O'Donnell has been selected the ACC's Field Hockey Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. O'Donnell's three selections are the most for any player in the ACC this season and is also the only freshman in the conference to garner the recognition.
Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.) had another big week for the Terrapins, who picked up a pair of wins over two top-15 opponents last week. Leading the team to its fourth ACC victory of the season at No. 12 Duke on Saturday, she assisted on the Terps' first two goals of the game, which tied the score at 1-1 and 2-2, respectively, before eventually notching the game-winning tally in the 4-2 win. At home the following day, O'Donnell scored the team's first goal in what would be a 3-1 win over No. 14 Boston University.
A midfield/forward, O'Donnell leads the team with 14 goals, 14 assists and 42 points. Her 1.0 goals and 3.0 points per game averages are the best in the country. She is ranked second with a 1.0 assist per game average, as well.
O'Donnell is spending this week with the U.S. National Team, who is playing a five-game series vs. Japan at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on campus, earning a starting spot in Monday night's 1-1 draw. O'Donnell will be available for the U.S.'s Wednesday night game which is schedule for a 7 p.m. start, before rejoining the Terps for their contest vs. No. 10 Old Dominion on Friday.
Maryland remains perfect through its first 14 games of the season, the best start to a season in program history. One of just two undefeated teams remaining in the country, the Terps are ranked second in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Poll for the fifth-consecutive week. All six ACC teams continue to be ranked in the top 20, with three occupying the top three spots in the ranking.
The Terps put their undefeated record on the line when they host rival and perennial powerhouse Old Dominion on Friday, Oct. 12 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex at 5 p.m. Following that game, the U.S. will take on Japan in its fourth matchup of the series. Admission and parking to the event is free.
