Seven Field Hockey Terps Named to All-Region Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Seven Maryland field hockey players were named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, which is selected by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, which was announced today. Among the seven who were selected, five were placed on the first team.

Selected to the first team were seniors Kathryn Masson (Richmond, British Columbia) and Janneke van Leeuwen (Hilversum, Netherlands), junior Susie Rowe (London, England), sophomore Nicole Muracco (Sewell, N.J.) and freshman Katie O'Donnell (Blue Bell, Pa.).

O'Donnell, Rowe, van Leeuwen and Muracco led the team in scoring as the top four scorer's on the team. O'Donnell led the nation with 2.52 goals per game, notching 18 goals. She also handed out a team-high 17 assists. She was third in the nation with 0.86 assists per game.

Rowe and Muracco were second on the team with 14 goals, tying for 22nd in the nation with 0.86 goals per game. Both were All-Americans last year, with Rowe earning a spot on the first team. Muracco was a third team as a freshman. Van Leeuwen was third on the team with a career-high 13 goals and second with 10 assists and 36 points, ranking among the top 20 in the nation in points per game. It is the third-straight year she's earned a spot on the all-region squad.

Masson is also on the all-region team for the third straight-year. She is a two-time All-American and this year ranked fourth in the nation with a 0.97 goals against average. Her 80.4 save percentage is the third-best in the nation.

Junior Ellen Ott (Schwenksville, Pa.) and sophomore Ameliet Rischen (Rotterdam, Netherlands) were placed on the second team. Ott, along with Rowe and Masson, helped the defense post a 0.90 goals against average, while scoring a career-high seven goals. Rischen was a key member of the midfield, starting every game. She tallied three goals and two assists this season.

The first teamers are eligible for the All-American team, which will be announced next week. The Terrapins lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and posted an 18-2 record.

Though the Terps' season is over, they will still serve as hosts of the NCAA Championship this weekend. The national semifinals are Friday, Nov. 16 and the championship game is Sunday, Nov. 18.
