Wake Forest head coach Jennifer Averill and players addressed the media about their NCAA semifinal matchup against Penn State at the pre-championship press conference on Thursday.
Head Coach Jennifer Averill
Opening Statement:
"We are happy to be here, obviously. I think there was a lot of parity in the tournament this year, which was pretty unreal and I think the scores [from the first two rounds] showed that. We survived a tough weekend [last weekend] and we are very proud to be here."
On avoiding the upset against Penn State:
"I think that is sport and nobody can really factor that in to any situation, you hope that your kids our ready. You have to give the credit to Penn State [for upsetting No. 3 Maryland in the second round] because they are a great team. But like I said, the parody, once you get to this level, anything can happen, it's a risky business."
On having more experience than Penn State in the national semifinals:
"I am certainly not going to down play the experience factor because it definitely lends its hand in this situation. There are a lot of similarities between us and Penn State in that we both have very young squads. So given that, it's which team is going to execute their game plan better will win the game."
Junior midfield Michelle Kasold
On what they are looking to do different in this semifinal than the last few years::<><>
"We want to win and, obviously, that's every ones goal coming here. We need to just keep doing what we have been doing all season, growing, playing as a team, and just having a good time.
Senior forward Chelsea Cipriani
On this game being like a road game:
"Our team likes playing on the road because there are less distractions. When we are at home we have all of our other friends and family members, and there are a lot of things going on. When we are on the road, all we are focused on is playing. So I think it is good for our team to be on the road."
