Terp Water Polo Signs Talented Quartet

Nov. 20, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland water polo coach Carl Salyer announced Tuesday the signing of four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Terrapins in Fall 2008.

The group includes Callan Rowe of Carlisle, Pa.; Alexandra Gurnee of Newport Beach, Calif.; Elina Goldenberg of Sunrise, Fla.; and goalkeeper Shelby Reyes of Miami, Fla.

Salyer said these players will be able to contribute quickly to the improving Maryland program.

"We have added a very talented and athletic group that is expected to contribute to the program right away," said Salyer, who will be in his fourth season as the Terps' head coach in Spring 2008. "Shelby will help shore up our goal situation and help anchor our defense. Alex adds an outstanding scoring ability that will stretch the opposing teams' defense.

"Callan and Elina will pressure opposing teams with their abilities to score from outside, inside and post-up positions. They will add speed and depth to our fast-break. These student-athletes have proved themselves in the pool and classroom, and we expect them to help our program continue to improve into the future."
