COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 24 Maryland wrestling team will host its first dual action of the 2007-08 season when Lehigh (2-4) visits Comcast Pavilion on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. The Terrapins (4-3) are ranked for the first time since 1993 and face a strong Mountain Hawks team looking to spoil their home opener. Fans can listen to the match live on Maryland Wrestling Talk with Luke Broadwater and Neil Adleberg calling the action.
The Terps earned their national ranking after stunning No. 5 Michigan last Saturday, 18-16. Maryland was down 16-6 with three matches to go, but redshirt junior Josh Haines turned the momentum as he upset Tyrel Todd, ranked No. 3 in the country at 184 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Hudson Taylor then came up with a huge pin at 197 pounds to pull the Terps within one, 16-15, and heavyweight Patrick Gilmore finished the comeback with a decision.
Maryland went 2-1 last weekend at the Journeymen/BRUTE Northeast Duals with another win against Appalachian State before losing to No. 9 Central Michigan.
Lehigh has already faced three ranked teams this season and is 0-3 in those matches. The Mountain Hawks have faced No. 20 Pittsburgh, No. 14 Nebraska, and No. 9 Central Michigan. The closest they came was against the Cornhuskers with a 28-13 setback. Lehigh has won two straight by beating Binghamton and Clarion. It faces Rutgers November 30 before making its trip to College Park.
