Following a sensational high school season, incoming freshman Brittany Grove has been honored as the Virginia High School League Player of the Year, as well as one of the top 150 high school players in the country by Prep Volleyball.
Grove's stellar play earned her a spot on the Virginia High School AAA League All-State First Team and won her the Virginia Gatorade Player of the year award.
"Brittany will bring depth to the middle blocker position for us next season," said head coach Janice Kruger, at the time of Grove's signing. "She is a tremendous and talented athlete."
As a player, Grove is known for her quickness and agility, which helped her lead her school, Deep Run High School, to victory in the state championship.
Grove had previously been honored as a Prep Volleyball.com Senior Ace in 2006 and was also chosen as the Colonial District Player of the Year. Her other honors this year include the Wendy's Heisman High School Award, the Lexus Pursuit of Excellence in Leadership Award and a first-team all-state candidate.
Off the court, Grove has been just as successful. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Council in her junior and senior years, while also all-academic for four years.
Grove is one of two highly touted freshman recruits that will be joining the Terrapins in the fall. Michelle Kenning of Cincinnati, a top-100 recruit in her own right, will team up with Grove next season.
