WALLACE, N.C. - Jessica Reno fired a 1-under-par 71 in Monday's second round, while Kelly Calkin chipped in with a 72 as the University of Maryland rallied to take third place after the opening day of the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational women's golf tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington.
Maryland posted a 294 score as a team, one of only four team scores under 300 in the field over the first two rounds. The Terrapins' total of 601 was 14 shots behind the host Seahawks and six shots behind East Carolina, which led after the first round at 291.
Reno was tied for fifth after 36 holes with a 148 total. She was tied with teammate Kate Stepanek, who shot identical 74s on Monday. Calkin's 72 put her in with a 151 total and tied for 18th individually. Also for Maryland, Katie Trotter and Kelly MacWhinnie were tied for 39th at 157.
Carmen Perez-Narbon and Emily Klein, both from UNC Wilmington, were tied for the individual lead after Monday's play at 2-under-par 142. They led by two strokes over Lene Krog of East Carolina, while Lauren Doughtie from NC State was fourth.
The final 18 holes will begin on Tuesday morning.
