COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Student-athletes at the University of Maryland will pay respect to victims of the recent Virginia Tech tragedy by adorning orange and maroon ribbons to their uniforms during upcoming competition.
Maryland, in conjunction with the Atlantic Coast Conference office and member institutions, is showing support for friends and family of Virginia Tech who were victimized Monday by the deaths of more than 30 students and faculty on the Hokie campus.
Terps student-athletes will be issued ribbons for the ACC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships which begin tomorrow at the Kehoe Track Complex at the University of Maryland. Ribbons will also be distributed to each school during the track and field competition.
Other Maryland teams in action later this week include baseball, men's golf, men's lacrosse, and men's and women's tennis.
The Maryland softball and women's lacrosse teams are heading into action this weekend in Blacksburg, Va.
The idea to wear the ribbons with the Virginia Tech school colors was generated through the efforts of the ACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the SAAC at each institution.
