COLLEGE PARK, Md. The University of Maryland women's water polo team has signed three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2007-2008 season. The spring signees join Meghan Powers and Casey Mills, who signed with the Terps during the fall.
Maggie Eicks, a native of Humble, Texas, earned first team all-region honors in 2005, and was named to the First Team All-State her junior year. As a center for Humble High she finished her water polo career earning all-state and all-region MVP homors after winning the Texas State High School Water Polo Tournament. She earned varsity letters in both swimming and water polo all four years of high school while also serving as an active member of the National Honor Society. She joines her sister, Liz, who is currently a sophomore on the team. Eicks will add a strong offensive presence with her ability to score from the post position.
Incoming freshmen Jessica Ernst, Courtney Johnson, Colleen Shaw and Stephanie Ragheb will also join the water polo student-athlete class of 2011.
Ernst comes to Maryland from Esperanza High School in Yorba Linda, Calif. She earned second-team Sunset League honors for the 2006-2007 season, during which she averaged over two goals per game. Ernst is expected to contribute a strong post presence to the team.
Johnson hails from Blue Bell, Pennsylvania where she played for Wissahickon High School. She is currently a member of the Northeast Zone Women's Youth Team and is her high school's top scorer. The Maryland coaching staff anticipates Johnson adding a strong scoring punch from the perimeter.
Shaw will join the Terps from Loyola Academny in Wilmette, Illinois. She is the Illinois High School Association's third all-time leading scorer in water polo, and has recently been selected to represent the Midwest Zone 2007 Youth Girls Team at the national tournament in Utah.
